Blue BloodsAuthor: Melissa De la CruzPublished: May 2007 |
As the first book in her Blue Bloods series, Melissa De la Cruz's Blue Bloods, sets the exciting scene that makes you need to read the rest of the series. Telling the tale of New York's fanged socialites, hidden controllers and causes of power struggles and outcasts, this is a different take on what I expect will turn out to be an interesting take on the typical coming of age story.

I found the characters and their development to, initially be, shallow, unlikable and predictable and as a result found it hard to get into this book, however I continued and I am very glad that I did and as I progressed through the book I realized that this was both forgivable and clever. Because this book is one in a series, the characters have to develop at a realistic pace through all four ... we will just have to see if this happens. Schuyler, is one of those characters who I just couldn't relate to in the beginning but wasn't sure why, whilst the hint of romance between her and Oliver, in the first chapter was never really clarified. However, again as this is only the first book in the series it may have been hook tactic and will hopefully be clarified in the proceeding books. I hope it is.
This is actually the second read of this book, the first being so long ago that I can't actually remember. However, what I did remember was how, after the first chapter, the story grabbed me, drew me into its written world and wouldn't let go. I wanted to see how accurate my hazy memory was, at it appears that my memory is fairly as, despite all its criticisms in this post, the story was compelling and enthralling and the next book should be arriving in the post any day now ....
